Whilst
Tory grandees struggle to prevent an open split in their ranks over Brexit, the
Remainers in all the parliamentary camps are working around the clock to keep
Britain inside the European Union (EU). Now the Trump clan is joining in the
fun, with the American president bragging that he could have got a better deal
with Brussels and his son claiming that the current deadlock and the probable
suspension of the exit day by at least three months proved that democracy in
the UK is “all but dead”.
Donald Trump Jr, a businessman who hold no
official political position in his father’s administration, told the {Daily
Telegraph} that Mrs May had "ignored advice from my father", adding
that "the will of the people is likely to be ignored" because of
"elite" politicians in Brussels.
Trump Jr says: "Mrs May ignored
advice from my father, and ultimately, a process that should have taken only a
few short months has become a years-long stalemate, leaving the British people
in limbo.
"Now, the clock has virtually run out
and almost all is lost -–exactly as the European elites were hoping.
"Some pro-Brexit politicians even
suggest that Mrs May is trying to sabotage Brexit, by insisting that Parliament
agree to a deal that essentially keeps Britain bound to the EU
indefinitely…with the deadline fast approaching, it appears that democracy in
the UK is all but dead."
In the White House Donald Trump openly
supports Brexit, which he claims will open the door to vast British imports of
cheap American food produce. None of us need any advice from the likes of Trump
and his family, and none of us are looking forwards to an avalanche of American
chlorinated chicken that the Remainers tell us will be the inevitable outcome
along with the sell-off of the NHS to US pharmaceuticals, and the civil unrest
and martial law that their ‘Project Fear’ tells us will follow.
In fact Brexit would end Britain’s
dependency on the EU’s common agricultural policy and allow us to import food
from all over the world, whereas Mrs May’s plan does, indeed, keep Britain
inside the EU in all but name, as Trump Jr says.
In 2016 we took part in a referendum that
asked a simple ‘In or Out’ question. Fifty-two per cent of the voters elected
to leave the EU. We were told that the only negotiations would be to resolve
Britain’s residual commitments during the “divorce” – but talks on the terms of
leaving seamlessly evolved into negotiations on the terms for remaining within
the customs union and the single market.
With the defeat of the ‘no-deal’ exit in
parliament – which was what the majority of the electorate thought they were
voting for in the first place – all that’s left is the terms that have
essentially reduced ‘leaving’ to the single issue of the ‘mobility of labour’
and halting mass European immigration.
Stopping the clock by suspending Article
50, the legal process for leaving the EU, is simply a delaying tactic by the
Remainers. It can only lead to continued membership of the EU until the time
comes for the ‘people’s vote’ that the pro-EU wing of the ruling class are
determined to get to reverse the referendum and keep Britain inside the
European imperialist union.
Two years ago millions of people voted
decisively to leave the EU. The alternative is the EU with its austerity regime,
the highest food prices in the world, ham-strung unions and mass unemployment
in Greece, Spain, Italy and throughout eastern Europe.
We voted for Brexit and that’s what we
want. If the May government cannot deliver it – and it clearly can’t – then it
must be brought down in parliament to pave the way for fresh elections.
The issue is clear. We want another
election to get Labour in and the Tories out. We want Labour to stand by the
people’s vote to leave the EU without any ifs or buts. And the surest guarantee
of Brexit is a massive majority for Labour at the next election.
